Rush Center--Stephen J. Karst, 39, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 1996, at the Rush County Memorial Hospital in LaCrosse after a lingering illness.
He was born May 10, 1956, at Great Bend to Leon B. and Wanda R. (Hemken) Karst.
He graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1974 and attended Kansas State University. The life-time area resident was a farmer and a member of Hope Lutheran Church of Rush Center.
Survivors include his parents; three brothers, David Karst, Fort Collins, Colo., Richard Karst, Rush Center, and Charles Karst, Claremore, Okla.; a sister, Jeannine Moore, Pueblo, Colo.; three nephews and two nieces.
Closed-casket services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, with the Rev. Evelyn Phillips officiating; burial in the Hope Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the Janousek Funeral Home, LaCrosse. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday with a prayer service at 8 p.m. at the mortuary. Closed-casket visitation is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church
The family suggests memorials to the Hays Medical Center Oncology Department or to the donor's choice.
