George Harvey Adkins was born May 29, 1948 in Street Road, Ticonderoga, Essex County, New York. His parents were: Orris Pier Adkins (1822-1910) and Amanda Phoebe Grant Adkins (1824-1890). There were four children: George(1848-1923),
Alice(1855-?), Altus(1858-1926) and Arthur(1862-1927).

He was married to Mary Louisa Brooks on March 3, 1870 in Crown Point, New York.
They had nine children: Mattie, Elsie, Mary, Johnnie, Jennie, Orris, John, Ethel and Leon.

He lived in Ticonderoga, New York essentially his whole life.

In 1891 George was the prime mover in establishing a new venture in Ticonderoga, a general store. He and his brothers plus a neighbor, Thomas Scott, established the grocery business of Adkins & Scott.

George died December 29, 1923 in Ticonderoga, New York.
