As the result of burns received a week ago Sunday morning when his night clothes caught fire as he lifted the griddle of a stove, Barney Barker died at his home on Convent avenue yesterday morning at 7 o'clock.
Mr. Barker, a lifelong resident of this city, was born in the old Dyer tavern, which was on West street, February 13, 1833. He served in the Civil war in Company B, 18th N.H. Volunteers and was in the siege of Petersburg and on duty in Washington at the time of the trial of the conspirators against Lincoln and government officials.
In July, 1866 Mr. Barker entered the employ of the American Express company and worked for that company up to 10 years ago when he retired.
Mr. Barker is survived by two sons, Frank Barker of this city and Harry Barker of Montclair, N.Y. He was a member of Roberts post, G.A.R.
The funeral will be held at his late home Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock and the body will be taken to Cuttingsville for burial in Laurel Glen cemetery.
