Mary Vega was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as the middle daughter of Valentine Vega & Encarcin "Cathchon" Baez Davila, on September 13, 1914.

Mary was a devout Catholic, and loved her family dearly. She remained at home with her sister, Fanny, until she married in 1945, and raised Carmen Maria Vega, whose exact maternity & paternity is not yet proven, but had it not been for the love, care and devotion, Carmen would never been the wife, mother, friend & devout Catholic she became.

Mary met an American Serviceman stationed as Chief Warrant Officer in the G2 Division of Cryptography in Buyamon, P.R., Franklin O. Nix of Oklahoma. They fell in love and married on 02 Jan 1945, in Puerto Rico. After WWII, Frank & his bride went home to Hinton, Oklahoma. They had two sons, Frank Delwin Nix (1947), and Jack Vernon "Vern" Nix (1948), and Frank farmed east of Hinton, OK.

In the fall of 1949, Mary missed Carmen, and sent for her to come to the USA, and live with her and Frank and their family in Hinton, OK. Carmen never returned to P.R., but loved the USA, and in Jan, 1950, would marry one of Frank's younger brothers, Foy Garland Nix.

Being of a different nationality other than "white" in rural Oklahoma could be difficult, but many now say that Mary Vega Nix changed their opinion, and opened their eyes to acceepting others when they saw and felt the love in her soul for everyone around her. She made a difference.

Mary, Frank and sons, would move to Miami, OK, in about 1954, and remained there, raising the two wonderful sons they adored immensely until their passing.
