- Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Snipes Mathis, 79, of Lancaster passed away Monday, January 23, 2012 at Springs Memorial Hospital. She was born March 19, 1932 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Thurlow Snipes and Ruth Sinclair Moore. Mrs. Mathis was a member of Pleasant Dale Baptist Church. She was cafeteria manager for Springs Industries for over 25 years. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Mathis will be held Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 2 pm at Pleasant Dale Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Adams officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.
- Mrs. Mathis is survived by two sons, Rick Mathis and his wife Janice H. and Reggie Mathis and his wife Kezia all of Lancaster; one daughter, Rita Blackmon and her husband Ernie of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Amanda M. Adams, Crystal M. Stevens, Angelia Plyler, and Deborah Bailey; eight great grandchildren, Kaitlin Allen, Dalton Allen, Zachary Hegler, Aaliyah Johnson, Carley Adams, Kaysie Stevens, Logan Stevens and Andelyn Stevens. She was preceded in death by her former husband and father of her children, Herman Ross Mathis; a step-son, Herman Wayne Mathis and a brother, Norman Franklin Moore.
- The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Lancaster Funeral Home and other times at the home of Rick and Janice Mathis, 367 S. Potter Road, Lancaster.
- Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Dale Baptist Church Building Fund, 133 S. Potter Road, Lancaster, SC 29720 or to the Humane Society of Lancaster, P.O. Box 1825 Lancaster, SC 29721.
