Both his death certificate and newspaper article state he died in 1933. He was killed after being struck by a vehicle on the side of the road after he wrecked his car.
Also struck were his brother-in-law Ralph Clark Black and Ralph's son-in-law Alva Alexander. They both survived but were seriously injured. They were returning from a fishing trip at the coast.

He was the son of David Nicholson and Hannah Elizabeth Ledwell Smith.
