MILITARY. John A. Naminsky enlisted as a Private in the US Army on 5 Feb 1941 in Newark, New Jersey. He was assigned to the Headquarters Battery, 165th Field Artillery Battalion, where he was promoted to Technician Fifth Grade (TEC-5).

The 165th Field Artillery Battalion was deployed to Alaska in Aug 1942, where it participated in the Aleutian Islands Campaign (Jun 1942 - Aug 1943). Sometimes referred to as the "Forgotten Battle," the Campaign drove invading Japanese forces out of Alaska. TEC-5 Naminski died in the line of duty in the Aleutians on 21 Aug 1943, and his death was listed as Death Non Battle (DNB). He was laid to rest in Fort Mears Cemetery in Alaska.
