Ernest H. Rickabaugh
Ernest H. Rickabaugh, Rt. 5, former owner and operator of the Broadview Hotel Barber Shop, died this morning in Newman County Hospital.
Funeral services will be in Roberts-Blue-Barnett Chapel, conducted by Dr. William A. Hubbard, pastor of the First Methodist Church. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
Mr. Rickabaugh had been a barber for 53 years, first in Madison and since 1946 in Emporia. He also operated his farm east of Emporia. One of the best known barbers in the town, he had owned the shop in the Broadview Hotel for years until it was closed at the time of the sale of the hotel building. The son of Joseph and Bertha Ream Rickabaugh, he was born Aug. 10th, 1893, in Emporia, and was married to Eva Lewis Feb. 29th, 1916, in Emporia. He was a member of the First Methodist Church, the American War Dads and the Emporia Grange. He was preceded in death by one brother, William, and he is survived by his wife, of the home; four sons, David, of Escondido, Calif.; Dwight, of Tulsa, Okla.; Thomas, of Wichita, and James, of Emporia; two daughters, Mrs. Harold Hubbard, Wichita, and Mrs. Kenneth McIlvain, Parkville, Mo.; two brothers, Urban, of Corvallis, Ore., and Robert, of Collins, Mo.; one sister, Maggie Fairhurst, Wichita; six granddaughters, eight grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
