Fatally Shot by Gun Held Empty

Harry Sake Killed When Shotgun Laid on Ground Discharges Into Side.

Fatally wounded by the accidental discharge of a shotgun which he thought was unloaded, Harry Sake, Boise cigar store proprietor, died Tuesday morning, on the way to the hospital. The accident occurred in the gulch immediately back of the Boise barracks.

Mr. Sake and his two small sons, John and Thomas, had gone into the hills to try out a new automatic shotgun. After shooting until he thought the chambe was empty, Mr. Sake laid the weapon upon the ground, when it accidentally discharge and sent the shot into his side.

Horror stricken, the boys ran down to the veterans' hospital, where they encountered Doctor Toms. A delivery truck was sent after the wounded man. Mr. Sake was still living when the truck arrived, but died before it reached
hospital building No. 27, where preparations were being made to care for him.

Fifteen shots in the heart.

An X-ray examination made by Dr. W. W. Brodie disclosed that the gun had sent its entire discharge into Mr. Sake's body. Fifteen shots were lodged in his heart and about 60 others in various parts of his upper body.

Mr. Sake came to Boise with his father from Iowa at the age of 16. He was former part owner of the Elite and bouquet pools halls, but recently disposed of his equity in these businesses and bought the Central Cigar store, which he was operating at the time of his death. He was 48 yrs. old.

Besides his wife, Mr. Sake is survived by four children, Harry, Jr., Edna, John and Thomas.

Funeral arrangements have not been made.
