Raynaldo A. Maes, a resident of Lakewood, formerly of Pueblo, passed away unexpectedly in Las Vegas, Nev., on Feb. 23, 2014. Raynaldo A. Maes Ray was born on June 8, 1951, in Taos, N.M., to Joseph and Elsie Maez. Ray was preceded in death by his loving parents. Ray graduated from Pueblo County High School in 1969. Immediately following high school, he served four years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. Ray retired in 2006 after 21 years of civil service at the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. He is survived by his brothers, Luis Maez of Golden, Steve (Marie) Maez of Pueblo; and his sisters, Fidelia (Eddie) Molina of Phoenix, Ariz., and Christina (Charles) Martinez of Pueblo. Ray had numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who will miss him greatly. Ray also had an extended Denver family whom he loved and who will miss him dearly. Ray enjoyed going to Las Vegas to try his luck as often as he could manage to get there; he also frequented the casinos up in Blackhawk (on "The Mountain" as he called them). Ray was a super Broncos fan and enjoyed watching all types of sports. He was a Big Brother for a number of years and kept in touch with his "little brother," who is now married and started a family of his own. Ray followed in our father's footsteps in making New Mexico-style furniture. His expertise was making children's furniture for the children and grandchildren of friends and family. Ray was a gentle soul who developed friends easily throughout his life's journey. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. There will be a viewing from 11 a.m until 6 p.m. on March 1, 2014, at Stork Family Mortuary, 1895 Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood Colo. Memorial services will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 8, 2014, at the Mount Vernon Event Center, 17173 Mount Vernon Road, Golden, Colo. A reception will follow the memorial services. Ray will be interred at the Fort Logan National Cemetery at a later date.
