Leon was an active member of Houston's First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and chairman of various committees. Throughout his cancer battle, his commitment to the Lord did not waver. From Leon's Personal Testimony written January 20, 1984: ''My outlook on life and death has completely changed since my commitment to Christ. I now want to find God's will in my life and do the things that are pleasing to Him.''
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mollie Johnson Calley, daughter & son-in-law, Carrie & Steve Fronek, granddaughter Emily Fronek, mother-in-law Rene Johnson, brothers Billy & Bob Calley, and sisters, Bettie Gassiot & Ruth Clifton. Leon asked that memorials be made to Pastoral Ministries at Houston's First Baptist Church.
