Rebecca was the oldest child of William & Catherine Pate who moved from SC into Henry Co GA by 1822 when William was commissioned as one of the Justices of Inferior Court. Her father was one of the justices who bought the land and laid out the town that would become McDonough. He was present on 2nd Jun 1823 when they drove up the stake for the court on lot # 123 and was present at the meeting in April 1824 when they ordered up the description of the courthouse and it's furnishings. Rebecca's parents were both born about 1760 and outlived her. It is believed that they both died in 1844. William was alive in 1841 but deceased before Nov 1844.

Rebecca married Jennings Hulsey on 13 Mar 1806. It is believed that he is an older half-brother to Charles Hulsey who married Rebecca's sister, Nancy.
