Dr. Robert W. Lackey, a former Dallas resident and professor emeritus of physiology at the Univ. of TX Health Science Center.
Lackey whose career was the longest of those still active in medical education in North Texas, was a native of Hico, Hamilton Co., TX. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Southern Methodist Univ., where he received a bachelor of arts degree in Chemistry in 1922.
He received his master of science degree from the Univ. of Chicago in 1927 and received his doctorate from the Univ. of TX at Austin in 1934.
He taught in the physiology department at Baylor Univ. College of Medicine from 1922 to 1943. In 1943, he was a member of the original faculty that founded Southwestern Medical College. and he became the first chairman of the department of physiology in 1950.
Lackey in 1954 was appointed assistant dean for student and curricular affairs. He also continued as chairman of the physiology department.
He stepped down from both positions in 1965 but continued to serve as a professor emeritus. Upon his retirement, Lackey continued to lecture for several years and assisted in student laboratories until the end of the 1979-80 school year.
He was a member of Highland Park Methodist Church, where he was a former board member.
Survivors: wife, 2 daughters, 3 sisters, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
