Johann Cordie, known as John, was born in Lorch am Rhein Germany on 18 Oct 1830, son of Jakob Cordie and Francisca Bruchhauser. Age 25, Johann emigrated to Australia aboard "Marbs" arriving in Moreton Bay on 22 March 1855. He worked and settled in Maryborough QLD. On 15 Jan 1867 he married Gertrude Wex, who was also from Germany. He established "Lorch Farm" which he named after his birthplace, on the Mary River, in an area known as the Pocket, near Maryborough. They had 5 children - Catherine Mary, Mary Frances, John Charles, Sophia and Jacob. On 9 Oct 1914 John died on Lorch Farm age 83. He is buried in Maryborough Cemetery with his wife Gertrude.
