Loyal J. Hicks age 88 of Wayton, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Newton County Nursing Home in Jasper.

The son of William Franklin Hicks and Susie (Garrison) Hicks was born on May 25, 1926 at Deer, Arkansas.

He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army and had worked as a mechanic. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans; a member of the Wayton Masonic Lodge and attended the Wayton United Baptist Church. He had lived most all of his life in Newton County.

He married Hazel Snow on September 24, 1944 at Shop Creek, AR. and they would have celebrated 70 years in September.

Loyal was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and four sisters, Effie Ammons, Beacher Hicks, Lattie Hicks, Ertle Hicks, Lexie Hicks, Arthur Lee Hicks, Ollie Vaughn, Floy Hampton and Tessie Owen.

Survivors are his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Hazel (Snow) Hicks of Wayton and many loving nieces and nephews.

Services at 2 P.M. Monday, June 23, 2014 at the Wayton United Baptist Church with Bobby Young officiating.

Burial will be in the Snow Cemetery at Wayton, AR. under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Jasper.

Pallbearers will be Bill Keeton, Taran Keeton, Ricky Henderson, Kendall Shelton, Johnny Crawford and Kelly Tenison. Honorary pallbearer will be William Junior Shelton.

Visitation from 2-4 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
