Her mother died when Mary was only eight months old and she was raised by her Uncle Jay and his wife Eva Dee (Small) Webster. She is listed as a niece on the 1900 census and on the 1910 census as an adopted daughter.
Mary had a sister, Bessie, and two brothers, James and Daniel. When her mother died her Granddad VinSant came to Kansas, on the train, and escorted her mothers body back to Cass County, Missouri and laid her to rest in the Union Baptist Cemetery. Her three oldest children, Bessie, James and Daniel also went home with him. At a later date Daniel went to live with his Webster grandparents.
Mary married Cecil J. Hilts, 5 Sept,1917, Sedgwick Co., Kansas.
She was the mother of two children;
1. Harold Stanley b-1919
2. Margaret K. b-25 Sept 1921
