OBITUARY of George W. Bearnes as it appeared in Macon, Missouri:
"Capt. George W. BEARNES, 72, died at his residence in Macon, Mo. 14 August 1891. He was born in Licking county, Ohio 13 March 1819, and when of age engaged in the mercantile business until 1855 when he moved to Iowa. In 1859 he came to Macon City and again went into business. At the breaking out of the Rebellion he entered the service of the U. S. as Captain of Co. C 11th Ca. M. S. M. He also served as Treasurer of Macon county 1865-1866. After this for a time he was engaged in the lumber and furniture business, retiring from business some years ago. He leaves a wife and daughter, Mrs. J. W. SMITH. He was a member of the G. A. R. and IOOF. Interment in Oakwood cemetery."
