Carl Haas about seventeen and Ruby Deas was about fifteen when they married about 1926 in South Carolina.

The 1940 census revealed Carl was a salary worker in private work. He worked 32 weeks as a twister operator and earned $575. Carl and his two sons were living with his parents in Dallas, Gaston County, North Carolina. He had a rural address in 1935. Carl had a third grade education. Household members: Charley Hass (52), Minnie (53), Vivian (16), Joyce(14), Carl (32), Billie (11) and Charles (8). His brother, Paul and family lived next door.

Carl's pregnant wife, perhaps seeking rest, was not on the 1940 census.

{{RITES WEDNESDAY FOR CARL HAAS - Carl W. Haas, 2800 York Rd. died Monday at 2:15 in a local hospital after a short illness.

The Gaston County native was born January 22, 1907, son of the late Charles J. and Minnie Moser Haas of Dallas.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby Deas Haas; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Miles and Mrs. Norman Price of Gastonia; three sons, Cecil, Charles and William Haas of Gastonia; four sisters, Mrs. Vivian Barnes of Charlotte, Mrs. Donald Crump and Mrs. Joyce Lee of Gastonia and Mrs. Johnny Garrell of Dallas; two brothers, Marshall and Paul Haas of Dallas; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Haas was a member of the Salvation Army Citadel, where he was a counselor of Boy Scout Troop 12.

He had been the textile machinery business for the pass thirty years.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 3 pm at the Salvation Army Citadel by Brig. John Roy Jones of Gastonia, with Brig. Fred Boyette of Greenville, S.C., Maj. Kenneth Johnson of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Maj. Preston Leonard of Tulso, Okla. assisting.

Burial will be at Gastonia Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 7-9 o'clock, at Wards Funeral Home.}}
