Mary Hoyle Hopkins, 99, of Covenant Village, died Dec. 3, 2009, at Gaston Memorial Hospital...Born in Lincolnton, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Monroe and Beulah Hinton Hoyle. She was a lifelong resident of Gastonia NC since age one.

Mrs. Hopkins graduated from Gastonia High School and the Univ. of North Carolina at Greensboro. She retired from Gaston County School System after 44 years of teaching. She was a life member of the N.C. Association of Educators; Past president of Alpha Eta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa (Honorary Teachers' Association); past president of the Gastonia Lionettes. She was a 91 year member of First United Methodist Church, where she served as president of the Friendship Club, active Circle member, and a teacher in adult classes of the church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Hopkins; her husband, Paul. P. Kincaid, Sr.; and her sister, Eunice Hoyle Smith
