James Edward VanMeter, Sr., age 80, of Dahlonega, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at his home following an extended illness.
Mr. VanMeter was born in Aragon, GA and had lived in Lumpkin County since 1984. He was a former resident of Orlando, Florida. He was retired from the Orange County Florida Road Department. James was a member of Dahlonega Church of God and served his country as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War. He was also a member of Woodmen of the World.
James was the son of the late Roy Thomas VanMeter and Vivian Alene Childers VanMeter, and was also preceded in death by sisters, Shirley Wehunt and Linda Dooley; brothers, Marvin, Archie and Jerry VanMeter.
Funeral services for Mr. VanMeter were held Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega. Rev. Larry Henry officiated.
Interment followed in Dahlonega Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors provided by the Veterans Alliance Honor Guard.
