Dr. Ashton was born July 11, 1897 in Richmond, Va., a son of
the late Benjamin P. and Julia Atkins Ashton. He graduated from the University of Richmond in 1920. and the Johns Hopkins Medical School in 1924.

Dr. Ashton served his internship at Baltimore City-Hospital, 1924-25. He was a resident in internal medicine at the Medical College of Virginia from 1925 to 1927, and taught there from 1925 to 1934,
serving first as instructor and later as an associate and assistant professor. He was a fellow of the American College of Physicians, a member of the Academy of Internal Medicine, and served on
the West Virginia State Board of Medical Examiners.

Dr. Ashton came to Beckley in 1934, and was associated with Beckley Hospital until his retirement in the mid 1960s.
A veteran of World War I and World War II, Dr. Ashton served on
the Army and Navy Medical Corps in World War II, and left the
service a lieutenant colonel.

He was elected this month as an honorary member of Phi Beta Kappa, an honorary academic fraternity, Dr. Ashton was a member of the American Medical Association, the Raleigh County Medical Society, the American Hospital Association, the Albans, American Diabetes Association, and the Black Knight Country Club.

His wife. Myrtle Irene (Cooper) Ashton, died in 1974, Survivors include three
sisters, Miss Elma H, Ashton, Alexandria, Va,; Mrs. Garland H. (Julia) Sharp, Richmond, Va,, and Mrs. J. Brooks (Grace) Nichols, Towson, Md.; and three nephews.
Private memorial services win be held at the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum at 2 p.m., Wednesday, with the Rev, David Jones in charge. The body is at the Calfee Funeral Home, where there will be no visitation.
