Odell Archer, Veterinarian, Dies at 74
Dr. Odell Archer DVM, 74, 3122 Wallace Ave., died at his home at 6 p.m. Sunday. Since 1940 he had been practicing veterinary medicine in Terre Haute.
An avid harness race enthusiast, he attended many state and county fair races. Prior to 1940, he practiced at Clinton, Ind. Then for 16 years his office was between 11th and 12th on Wabash ave.
Dr. Archer was born in Rosedale and was graduated in 1917 from the Indiana Veterinary College at Indianapolis. During World War I he served as 1st Lieutenant in the Veterinary Corps of the U. S. Army.
Dr. Archer was Past Master and member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 99, a member of the Vermillion County Past Masters Association, the Terre Haute Council No. 8 Royal and Select Masters and the Vermillion Chapter No. 125 RAM of Clinton. He also was a member of the Kerman Grotto, Scottish Rite, Valley of Terre Haute, and the Zorah Shrine.
He also served on both the Vigo County Board of Health and the City Board of Health.
He was a life member of the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association.
Survivors include the widow, Mary Ann; three sons, Walter, Merrillville, Waite, Lafayette, and Wayland, Indianapolis; a daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Junghans, Paris, Ill.; two stepsons, Samuel Winters, West Terre Haute and George Winters, Plainfield; two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Vestal, North Terre Haute, and Mrs. Rosa Gibbs, Rosedale; a brother, Major Daniels; Hobart, Ind., and nine grandchildren.
