After the war, Jesse married Mary E. Carlock on 20 Apr 1946 in Wood River, Madison County, Illinois. Justice of the Peace O. A. Sparks performed the ceremony. They were the parents of 2 children.
Jesse worked as a laborer with Wood River Labor Local 338 for many years. He was a foreman at Owens-Illinois Glass Company and retired in 1980.
Mary was the owner and operator of Mary's Beauty Shop in South Roxana, Illinois. She worked there as a beautician for 40 years, until her retirement in 2002.
He was a member of the South Roxana American Legion Post 1167. He also belonged to the Alton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1308 as well as the Alton Piasa Masonic Lodge 27.
At the time of his death at John Cochran VA Medical Center, Jesse was 84 years, 1 month and 8 days old. He was survived by his wife, Mary; 1 daughter, (Living) Powers of Roxana, Illinois; 1 son, (Living) Ball and his wife; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, (Living) Whitfield of Spokane, Washington.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on 30 Jun 2004 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River, Illinois. Masonic services were performed by Piasa Masonic Lodge 27 at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services were conducted at the funeral home at 11 a.m. the following morning.
Jesse's wife, Mary, passed away in 2010 and was buried next to him.
