Bernice Kirby
ALTON - Bernice Kirby,
77, died at 12:40 p.m. Thursday,
Feb. 26,1998, at Anderson
Hospital in Maryville.
She was born Nov. 6,1920, in
Eureka Springs, Ark., a daughter
of the late Milton and
Maude (Stites) Brooking.
She was a nurse's aide at St.
Joseph Hospital for 20 years,
retiring in 1997. She was a
member of the First Assembly
of God Church in Cottage
Hills.
She married Ira Kirby in
1939, in Charleston, 111. He
died Nov. 7, 1973.
She is survived by a daughter
and son-in-law, Violet and
Robert Steward of Brighton;
two sons and daughters-
in-law, Robert and Judith
Kirby of Peachtree City, Ga.,
and Bjlly and Marjorie Kirby
of Bethalto; 11 grandchildren;
and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by a brother, Jasper Brooking.
Visitation will be from 9:30
a.m. until time of service at 11
a.m. Saturday at Elias-Smith
Funeral Home in Bethalto,
with Pastor Phillip Schnider
officiating.
Burial will be at Wanda
Cemetery in South Roxana.
In lieu of flowers, memorials
may be made to the family
