St. Louis was founded by French fur trappers in 1764. Eugenie's father-in-law and a few others made their way from Canada to an area located north of St. Louis. Several families, including Antoine and Eugenie DeGerlia, eventually crossed the Mississippi River near Portage des Sioux and settled in Calhoun County, Illinois in the early 1800's.
Eugenie and Antoine established a farm in Calhoun County. They were the parents of 9 or 10 children.
Eugenie died in 1857. She was survived by her husband, Antoine, who died in 1861.
