Burgoyne, Phyllis J. (Ellinger), devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009. She was born Devember 17, 1923 in Winfield, KS to Frank Leslie and Etha Ellinger. She was raised in the Tisdale, KS community and attended school there until the seventh grade. She was active in 4-H and there began singing solos for church, weddings and funerals. She attended junior high and high school in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1941. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone in Winfield and Strother Field during World War II and later in Wichita. Phyllis also worked for the Physicians Exchange in Wichita. She married Max H. Burgoyne on January 20, 1946, and celebrated their sixty-third anniversary in 2009. Her greatest achievement was raising their four children. She especially enjoyed her time as a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader. Phyllis could always be depended upon to provide service to her church through singing in the choir and food preparation. She was especially known for her chicken noodle dinners. She took great pleasure in cooking, traveling, playing "Wheel of Fortune" and spoiling her grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert. Survivors include husband, Max; children, Barbara Hankins (Lee), Brenda Burgoyne Edgington (Reed), Becky Burgoyne, and Max Burgoyne, Jr. (Rita); grandchildren, Gary Hankins (Cheryl), Craig Hankins (Sonya), Christopher Hankins (Amber), Cooper Edgington and Lauren Edgington; and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2009, 10 a.m., at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 3515 S. Elizabeth, Wichita. Graveside services at Highland Cemetery, Winfield, 2 p.m. Arrangements by Miles Funeral Service, Winfield. Visitation 4-8 p.m., Monday, Miles Funeral Service. Memorials may be offered to Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 3515 S. Elizabeth, Wichita, KS 67217. Condolences may be sent to 220 S. Belmont, Wichita, KS 67218. The family would like to thank the staff at Catholic Care Center and Harry Hines Memorial Hospice for all their loving care.
