LAURA MAE GRAHAM, 102, a resident of Cumbernauld Village in Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, December 12, 1999 at Wm. Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.
Born May 18, 1897 at Papillion, Nebraska, she was one of 5 children born to George W. and Emma Seefus Zweibel. At age 11, Laura moved with her family to Texas, where they resided before moving to Kansas in 1911. A graduate of Sedgwick, Kansas High School in 1914, she later attended Kansas State Agricultural College, now Kansas State University.
On August 22,1918, she was united in marriage to Harold A. Graham at Sedgwick, Kansas, and the couple made their first home on the Graham farm near Winfield. They later resided on College St. in Winfield before moving to Lyons, Kansas in 1949. The Grahams visited all but 6 of the United States during their marriage.
Mr. Graham preceded her in death in 1984, and she continued to reside in Lyons before returning to Winfield in 1993.
A resident of Lyons for over 44 years, she was a member of the Lyons United Methodist Church for over 50 years, and also a charter member of the Lyons United Methodist Women. She was a 35-year member of the Lyons Women's Club, and she was an active Red Cross volunteer during W.W. II. Her interests included her children & grandchildren, travel, sewing, entering contests, card writing, interior decorating, and publishing her articles & stories.
Her family includes: Her sons: Maj. Hugh W. Graham, ret'd., of Winfield; Her daughter: Patricia F. Fuller & husband James of Bellevue, Washington; Her daughter-in-law: Eloise Graham of Lynchburg, Virginia; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchldren. In addition to her parents & husband, she was preceded in death by a son: H. Allen Graham in December, 1997; by 2 brothers: Grover & Fred; and by 2 sisters: Clarice & Clora.
