In the 1930 census, James and his family were living in Perry Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. He was listed as James H. age 49 born in Pennsylvania, his wife Bessie age 31, born in Pennsylvania, their children listed were, Harriet age 6, Mary age 5, and Alice age 3, all born in Pennsylvania. Also his brother, Louis Culler age 52 born in Pennsylvania, and listed, working in Brickyard, was living with the family.

James H. Culler, 48 years old, of Layton, died yesterday afternoon at his home following an illness of six months. He was a bricklayer. He is survived by his wife and three small children, one brother, Lewis, of Layton, and three sisters, Mrs. Charles Ornsby, of Revenna, Ohio, Mrs. James _____ of Swissvale and Mrs. E. H. Slater of Chillicothe, Ohio. The funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal Church of Layton. Rev. Miller, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be made in Bryan Cemetery, near Dawson, in charge of Funeral Directors Ira Blair & Son.
