Leo Joseph Kowalewski was born in 1925 to Frank and Josephine (Zakrzewski) Kowalewski, the oldest of eight children.
He grew up in the Loup City area.
He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1943-1946. After WWII he returned to Loup City where he owned a liquor store until he married Nora Thode.
The couple lived in Omaha. He drove truck for many years for the Admiral Merchants Motor Freight Truck Company. He earned many safety awards for his fine driving record. He retired from the company in 1987.
He and his wife, moved to Sun City, Ariz.
He was a Eucharistic Minister at the Saint Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church for seven years and was a very active member of the Adoration Society and the Queen of Peace Rosary Group. He always returned to St. Paul in the summer to visit his "cousins," Gladys and John Vincik and family and worked on the farm, as he would say, "back home."
He remained a faithful member of the American Legion of Loup City throughout his life.
He is survived by three sisters, Bonnie Mashka, Lil Becker and Judy Caine; nieces and nephews and a stepson Ron Kotrc and two grand stepsons, Peter and Joel. He will be missed by many friends and extended family in Sun City, Ariz. and the state of Nebraska. He was "one of a kind."
He will be laid to rest next to his wife, Nora.
