William LeRoy Rudesill, age 77 of Spring Valley died Sunday, June 7, 1992, following emergency surgery at United Hospital, St. Paul, Minn.

Bill was born April 29, 1915, to the late Lewis and Hazel (Bakke) Rudesill in Rush River Township, St. Croix County. He was baptized and confirmed and was a member of the Congregational Church in Spring Valley since 1950.

Bill was a graduate of the Spring Valley high School in 1935. He was a member of the first basketball team to participate in the State Basketball Tournament in 1934 and 1935. Bill loved hunting and fishing. He played baseball for many years having been a team member of Duffy's Darlings and the Spring Valley Hawks. He continued to follow Spring Valley athletics and was an especially avid baseball fan and golfer. He also managed the Spring Valley Hawks a number of years ago.

On May 13, 1944 Bill married Barbara ‘Bette' Draxler at Stillwater, Minnesota. They were blessed with one son Richard.

Bill worked for the Corp of Engineers in the 1940's. He was also employed in livestock trucking and construction having helped build Interstate 94. He owned and operated Bill's Bar in Spring Valley for many years and was a member of the Spring Valley Businessmen's Organizations. He drove school bus in Spring Valley for eight years before retiring in 1985.

Preceding him in death were his parents and an infant sister.

Survivors include his wife Bette of Spring Valley; one son, Richard Rudesill and his wife Aneeda of Spring Valley; one grandson, Brian Rudesill of St. Paul, 2 brothers, Don Rudesill and his wife Ruby of River Falls and Dr. Robert Rudesill and his wife Alice of South Pasadena, Florida; two sisters, Doris (Mrs. Russ Hollingsworth) of Bedminister, New Jersey and Lois Nerby of Alma, Wisconsin; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation was held Tuesday from 5-9 p.m. at the Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley with funeral services Wednesday, June 10, 1992, at 10:30 a.m. at the Congregational Church, Spring Valley. Fr. Henry Hoerburger officiated with music provided by organist Mrs. Harriett Davis and vocalists Mrs. Eunice Spence, Mrs. Joyce Esanbock, and Doris Brandvold. Cremation was in Eau Claire with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Rush River Township, St. Croix County, Wisconsin.

Honorary bearers were Virgil Powell, Wayne Rudesill, Leroy Walsingham, Ralph Oltman, Forrest Bune, Richard Bergman, and Gordon Emerson. Bearers were Bill Howard, Ken Witucki, Mike Rudesill, Bill Jackson, Bob Blegan and Andy Rudesill.
