O. R. Roberts
Onbey Roscoe Roberts was born in Doniphan county, Kansas, on May 23, 1880, and passed away at his home in Alma, Kansas, on June 12, 1949.
In early life he lived with his parents on farms in Doniphan and Nemaha counties. Later he became a carpenter, at which trade he worked in states throughout the western part of the United States. During the second World War he was active in carpenter work at the United States naval training station and the Marine corps base in San Diego, Calif., until his health required him to retire from such active service. He then moved to a farm near Clarksville, Arkansas, before returning to his native state.
He was a member of the Methodist church, which he joined at Centralia, Kansas, while a young man.
"Ross," as he was affectionately known by friends and acquaintances, or Onbey, as his family knew him, leaves his wife, Viva Slough Roberts and their daughter, Elizabeth Joan of Alma; Donald Roscoe Roberts, Mrs. Dorothy Hibbard and Claude Onbey Roberts and families, children of a former marriage all of whom reside in San Digeo, Calif. He leaves five grandchildren: Donald Gay Roberts, Wanda Jean Roberts, Robert Ray Hibbard, David Hibbard and Claudia Lynn Roberts. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters: W. A. Roberts of Centralia, Kans., Maude S. Roberts of Atchison, Mary Josephine Bedker of North Platte, Neb., Valeria Pearl Selby of Atchison, J. P. Roberts of North Platte, Nebr., and numerous other relatives and friends.
Interment was in the family lot at Centralia, Kansas, on June 16, 1949.
