CW4 Retired Kenneth A. Colburn, Jr. "Sonny", 77, passed away Monday May 18, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Putnam, CT to Kenneth and Hazel (Corbin) Colburn.

He was the oldest of five children. He grew up in Chepachet, graduated from Central High School. When he was 17, he received his parents' permission to enlist in the Navy but was rejected because of his eyesight. He then joined the Army Reserve in Burrillville, joined the Air Force in 1955, serving for 10 years. He then transferred to the Army as a Warrant Officer One and was assigned to Fort Bragg. During his 12.5 years with the Army he attained the rank of Warrant Officer Four (CW4), Automotive Maintenance Technician, and retired on June 30, 1978. He served during the Vietnam War, completing three tours of duty in Vietnam, the last one a volunteer assignment that allowed his youngest brother, Donald to be transferred out of Vietnam. During his military career he was assigned to various Organizational, Direct and General Support units in CONUS and OCONUS, including Greenland (USAF), and Europe. Among the awards he received are the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/3 OLC and the Commanders Award for Civil Service.

Kenneth began his civil service career in October 1980. As a Department of the Army Civilian (DAC) Kenneth was a mechanic, Chief of Technical Supply and Chief of the Maintenance Assistance and Instruction Team (MAIT), Ft. Devens, MA. Joining the AMC Team in 1984, Kenneth was a TACOM Logistics Assistance Representative (LAR); Logistics Assistance Coordinator (LAC) at Fort Benning and with the 25th ID in Hawaii; Chief, TACOM CONUS Southeast Section and Acting Chief, TACOM CONUS Branch, Ft. McPherson, GA; Chief, TACOM Logistics Support Branch, Warren MI; and SCR/CONUS Team Chief, Ft. McPherson, GA.
Kenneth earned a degree in Business Management from Fisher College, Boston, MA., completed the Army Maintenance Management Course, Supervisors Development Course, Personnel Management for Executives I, Leadership Education and Development (LEAD), Directorate of Logistics Course, Contracting Officers Representative Course, and the Logistics Assistance Program Support Course, Operations Course and Senior Managers Course. He had extensive technical training and experience on TACOM equipment ranging from the CUCV thru M1 Main Battle Tank and BFV systems.
During his life time Kenneth made a "Job" of retiring, retiring from the US Army in 1978 and the civil service three different times.

On July 27, 1972 Kenneth married Nancy (Davis) Rushworth. He and Nancy have 6 children: Sandra Forshee, Kenneth A. Colburn III, William Rushworth, Gail Noblin, Robert Rushworth and the late David Rushworth and 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Tenison, Timothy Mayben, Cassandra (Cassie) Noblin, and Jamison and Emily Colburn, and 2 great-grandchildren. Kenneth's siblings are Ruth Parr, Richard Colburn, Nancy Hodges and the late Donald Colburn. He also had many nieces and nephews.

During their marriage they lived in Germany, Hawaii, and a number of other states, where they made many wonderful and lasting fiends.
Kenneth was an avid NASCAR Fan, attending many races. He restored antique and classic cars, participated in many Car Shows and won many awards. His specialty was 1956 Fords.
He was a member of Inglis Florida Masonic Lodge, and a life member of the Veteran of Foreign wars. Among his many treasures was a well-worn Cowboy hat.

His funeral will be held Friday, May 22, 2015 at 10am in the Tucker-Quinn Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Pike (Rt.44) Greenville. Burial with military honors will be in Acotes Hill Cemetery, Chepachet. Visitation Thursday, May 21, 2015 from 4-7pm.
