Dr. Emmett H. Anderson Jr., 91, died December 16, 2008.

Dr. Anderson, a native of Richmond, VA, graduated from the University of Richmond and received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Virginia, where he received a Fulbright Award to study in Dijon, France, and was inducted in Phi Beta Kappa and also the Raven Society.

In World War II he served overseas in the US Army Signal Corps. After teaching 28 years in the Foreign Language Department at Rhodes College, he taught part-time in French and Spanish at St. Mary's Episcopal School.

He was an elder and Sunday School teacher at Evergreen Church.

Dr. Anderson, the husband of Ellen Gray Anderson, leaves one son, Emmett Cecil Anderson of Memphis, one daughter, Karen A. Wismer of Sarasota, FL, a sister, Helen L. Anderson of Richmond, VA, and five granchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
