RICHARD V. HUGHES, 72, of Memphis, retired from the Navy, died of pneumonia Monday at Memphis Veterans Medical Center. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel has charge. Mr. Hughes, the widower of Sarah Louise Hughes, leaves a son, Richard V. Hughes Jr. of Dallas; two sisters, Sarah Pilkington of Memphis and Frances Ward of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; four brothers, Harry H. Hughes Jr. and Charles S. Hughes, both of Memp his, Robert E. Hughes of Virginia Beach, Va., and Paul N. Hughes of Winchester, Tenn., and three grandchildren. (Published in The Commercial Appeal 7/20/1994)
