Mrs. Slaten was born in Dassel, Minn., to Hilding Beckman and Myrtle Johnson. She was married to retired Air Force Sgt. Lynn Slaten.
She was a homemaker, and her hobby was family history research. She did genealogy research on her family while she and her husband lived in Minneapolis, Minn., Washington D.C., Montgomery and Colorado Springs, Colo. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage and could converse some in the Swedish language.
She is survived by her husband: Lynn Slaten of Guntersville; son: Dale Slaten of Guntersville; daughter: Darla Slaten of Guntersville; sister: Velma Jorgensen of Dassel, Minn., and numerous other relatives in Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter: Dawn Slaten, who is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C.
Private services will be held at Carr Funeral Home with interment at Brookwood Cemetery in Arab.
