John's first wife was Charity House...They had one child: Carrie b. 1866...Charity died soon after giving birth to Carrie...During the War of the Rebellion, John was a Private in Co A, 109th Regiment, NY Infantry...He enlisted for 3 years on 2 Aug 1862 in Newfield, Tompkins Co., NY and mustered on 12 Aug 1862...His unit organized at Binghamton, NY and left NYS for Annapolis, MD on 30 Aug 1862...He was attached to the 8th Army Corps in October of 1862 and then the Railroad Guard, 22nd Army Corps, Dept of Washington in April of 1864...His next assignment was with the 1st Brigade, 3rd Division, 9th Army Corps, Army of the Potomac until Sept 1864 and then the 1st Brigade, 1st Division, 9th Army Corps until June of 1865...John discharged on 20 Jun 1865...Note: In April of 1864, John was ill and was in Sickel Barracks, USA General Hospital, Alexandria, Virginia...
