John Robert Anthony was born September 18, 1863 at Muscatine, Ia., and departed this life at his home in Wayne on July 30, 1938, at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 12 days.

The family moved to Kansas in December, 1876, settling near Clyde until the spring of 1878 when they moved to Republic county (sic) where Mr. Anthony resided with the exception of five years spent in Decater (sic) county (sic).

On September 29, 1998 (sic) he was married to Fannie (sic) L. Smith and to this union two daughters were born.

He was one of a large family, five sisters and three brothers having preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, two daughters, Mary of the home, and Mrs. Karl Hughes of Manhattan; one grandson, John Karl Hughes; three brothers, Charles M. and Thomas Anthony of Oberlin, and A.T. Anthony of Perry, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Miss Mary Ann Smith of the home; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Mr. Anthony was a kind, considerate husband and father, highly respected by all who knew him. He was a member of the Wayne I.O.O.F. lodge.

Funeral services were held at the Wayne Methodist church (sic) Sunday with the Rev. John W. Frint in charge. Burial was in the Union cemetery (sic) where the Wayne I.O.O.F. lodge No. 366 had charge of the services.
