Lillian Florlede "Flo" Queen Blechinger, age 88, of 1345 Redmond Road, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Blechinger was born Aug. 5, 1912, in Cedartown, the daughter of the late Adolphus Queen and Beulah Alberta Hackney Queen, both of Cedartown. Mrs. Blechinger was a former member of First Baptist Church in Cedartown. She received a nursing degree from McCall Hospital in Rome in the early 1930s, worked in the "preemie" department at Floyd Hospital, was charge nurse at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Ill., and was director of nursing at several hospitals in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn. area, including being surgical nurse at Henrotin Hospital. Mrs. Blechinger retired and lived in Atlanta for 25 years, where she was an active member of Vinings United Methodist Church in Vinings.

Mrs. Blechinger was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Francis Xavier Blechinger, on Feb. 16, 1969, in San Francisco, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Jo Queen Langford, Rome 1983 and Mrs. Margaret Louise "Mutt" Queen Bradfield, Rome 1987; one brother, Frank Pershing Queen, Cedartown 1918, and ten half-brothers and sisters of the Queen family.

Survivors include one sister, Caroline Sue Queen Logan of Cedartown; two nieces, Mrs. Hannah Logan Chambley and Mrs. Ann Langford Aycock, both of Rome; one nephew, William Adolphus Bradfield of Atlanta and Garnano, Italy; two half-nieces, Mrs. Virginia Horan Smith of Marietta and Mrs. Mildred Melton Henry of Albertville, Ala., and three great-nieces, Lisa Bradfield Starnes of Cumming, Reagan Smithson of Athens and Kim Ayer Vega of Stone Mountain.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Floyd College Nursing Program, Floyd College, Rome, Ga.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Gammage Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Gammage Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Gammage Funeral Home of Cedartown is in charge of the arrangements.
