"Death Comes To Rufus Packwood. Funeral of Centralia Pioneer, Aged 82, Will Be Held Tomorrow Afternoon. Rufus Packwood, one of the early pioneers of this section, who was born 82 years ago in the Nisqually valley between Olympia and Tacoma, died last night in a Centralia hospital. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Sticklin chapel, Rev. J.C. Mergler officiating and interment being in the Tenino cemetery. Mr. Packwood was the son of William Packwood, who crossed the plains in 1844 to the Northwest and for whom Packwood Lake, in Eastern Lewis county is named. The son, Rufus, took up a homestead 52 years ago in the Hannaford valley, northeast of Centralia, where he resided until three years ago, moving then into the city. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mabel Ogle, Centralia, and a sister, Mrs. P.E. McElfresh (Pauline), Redmond, Ore."
