Rassie Buchanan parents were Robert Grant Buchanan 1866 – 1954 and Mary Dorthula Short 1868 – 1950. He had one brother, Samuel Greely Buchanan 1891 – 1966.

On Feb. 13, 1926, Rassie married Mary Francis Hawkins. They first had a baby girl that they named Georgia Joyce Buchanan. They called her Joyce. On Aug. 4, 1935 Francis gave birth to another baby girl. Tiny Betty Jean, sadly, died the day she was born.

In the 1930 census They were living in a rented house in the rural Bulls Gap area of Hawkins Co. Rassie was employed as a farmer.

In 1940 they were paying $12.00 a month for a rented house on 325 Virgil St. in Kingsport, Sullivan Co., Tennessee. He was working at a glass plant, making $720.00 a month.

In 1968 Audrey DeCamp Hoffman from Tulare, CA.,a maternal 1st cousin of Frances visited Rassie and Francis in Tennessee. At that time they were living in Morris Town, Tennessee.

In Feb. 0f 1972 another maternal 1at cousin. Marian Wheat, from Corcoran, CA were visiting in Tennessee. She arrived on the day that Francis, Rassie's wife passed away. Marian attended Francis funeral and was at the Gulley Cemetery for her internment .

Rassie died in June of 1986 and is buried beside his dear wife. (bio by Audrey DeCamp Hoffman)
