Vernie V. Stiles McGrath was born August 7, 1925, in Blairsville, Indiana, PA, a daughter of Gilbert George Stiles and Nettie Belle Irene Starry.
Vernie was raised and educated in Blairsville PA and graduated from Blairsville High School. To help with the second World War effort she worked for General Electric Co. in Erie. She also worked various other jobs, including at Peek'n Peak Resort and Spa where she was manager of the laundry department. She retired in 1995 after 20 years of service with the resort. She enjoyed sewing and photography. Her main priority, though, was always her family.
She married Hugh Arthur McGrath on September 29, 1945, in North East PA. To this union seven sons were born, five of whom are still living. Her two oldest sons died while infants, Hugh Arthur McGrath II and Patrick Hugh McGrath.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Sidney Stiles and was followed in death by a brother, Gilbert Harold "Doc" Stiles. She also had a sister who is still living.
Arrangements for her funeral were handled by the Bracken Funeral Home of Corry PA.
