Mrs. Bevis was born February 9, 1917 in Hosford, Florida, although the family origins were Walton County. She was a 7th generation Floridian, which gave her the opportunity to grow up in North Florida and watch the growth of our beautiful state. The Gulf of Mexico, fields, streams, rivers, pine lands, and wildlife were her playground. The members of her family founded the first Presbyterian church in Florida, located in Walton County. These strong-willed farmers and merchants were people of work ethic, education, intergrity, and honor. She maintained these principles throughout her life and passed them to her five children, 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 9 nieces and 5 nephews. Jo Helen, the youngest child of Charles Kenneth McCaskill and Amanda Burnham McCaskill, adored her older brothers and sisters. They developed her fun loving social skills, playing, teasing and always teaching the joy of living. But the playful sparkle in her eye, as well as her tenacity, was hers alone, making a child's tears turn to smiles or a frowning clubwoman laugh at herself. Music, singing, dancing, and laughing were lifetime gifts she gave daily and generously. Church, children, birds, flowers, and the University of Florida Gators were her favorite earthly enjoyments. The Lord blessed her with all of these wonderful things throughout her life and she gave them, in turn, to all who knew her.

The McCaskill family was involved with the vast timber business in all of North Florida, moving the family as needed. After graduating from high school in Gainesville, Jo met and married the athletic and handsome University of Florida football player, Charles William Bevis from Marianna, Florida. Their children grew up with sports in their everyday lives.

The legacy of the life of Jo Bevis lives on through her Life Membership in the GFWC Woman's Club of Tallahassee, President 1958-60 and 1970-71; Life Member, Dogwood Circle, Tallahassee Garden Club; and charter member of Faith Presbyterian Church, were she was a member of Ruth Circle, Holy Rollers and Prime Timers. This legacy of service and love has been passed graciously to her family and friends. Please join us as we bind together to celebrate her life.

She is survived by her children, Clara Fulton (Ben), Charlene Bevis Reese (Charles), Joseph "Bo" Bevis (Bridgette), K. Bert Bevis (Latisha), and Lawrence Richard "Larry" Bevis,II (Donna); her grandchildren, Sue Fulton, Charles Fulton, Mindy Moody Yarling, Lee Anne Moody Hansard, Jo Helen McArthur Gerdes, Gerald D. McArthur, Jr., Mary Jo Sanders, Michael Bevis, Beth Bevis Schrader, Brent Bevis, Charles William Bevis, II and Lawrence Richard Bevis, III; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs. H.F. (Betty) Bevis.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie, and their son Charles William Bevis, Jr.
