I am a direct descendant of James Shasteen and Phoebe Padgett whose children migrated from Amherst & Rockbridge Counties VA circa 1812-1819. Robert, James & John settled in Yellowbud, Ross County OH by 1820 and Edmund & William, in Henry & Defiance Counties OH by 1830.

I am particularly interested in connecting together the Shasteen lines that came off not only James and Phoebe, but also those that came off another James and his brother Jesse who were contemporaries of James and Phoebe. Undoubtedly, all three of these men are related to the Pierre Chastain line, but unfortunately, there has yet to be evidence to document how they are related to one another and to the Pierre Chastain line. In the 1780's and before these three men lived in the same part of Amherst Co. VA with an older James Shasteen (various spellings) who would be the key to connecting them together and to the Pierre Chastain line.
