Bio

I was born in Fulton County and lived there until 1965. We expected to retire back there to our 13+ acres that we own, across the creek from the house where I was born which will not happen.
I started to work with my mother on the Mellott Genealogy starting in 1958. My first work was to organize the data into a workable, simple system that would minimize individual records. In Fulton County, it was not unusual to be related by both father and mother on your mother's side (maternal) and both mother and father on your father's side (faternal). My mother would keep loose leaf notebooks on all four of these connections. I use what I call a 'birth order' system and always follows the male 'Mellott Decendant' if there is one. If there is no male 'Mellott Decendant' then it follows the female 'Mellott Decendant'. Everyone has a 'birth order' based on your birth order in your family. My birth order number is 0309 0205 0212. I am the 12th in my family, my dad was 2nd in his family, my grandfather was 5th in his family, my great grandfather was 2nd in his family and so on. The 03 is Obediah Roy Mellott Sr., the 3rd son of Elder John B. Mellott. Two people will never have the same 'birth order' number. When my mother, Catharine Harriet (Keefer) Mellott (0309 0205 022) died in 1991, I was given all her records. I am still organizing her handwritten work.
In 2019, we added another property in Fulton County, a house in McConnellsburg, where her sister Mabel lived on Rt 16 (Buchannan Trail) going up the mountain towards Mercersburg.
We have sold our home in Shiremanstown of 50 years and have moved to an apartment in the Bethany Retirement Village. Our new address is 5225 Wilson Lane, Apt#3116, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055-6668.
