Isaac Barnhart
You have a photo request for Isaac Barnhart at the New York Cemetery near Millerton, Iowa. I believe I found his stone.

According to the Wayne county cemetery books published in 1976, Isaac's stone is the first one to the north of Christie Keith. I probed the ground and found 4 buried stones to the north of Keith's marker. I will dig these stones up tomorrow or Saturday. If I find Isaac's stone, I will dig it up, clean it and (later) will attempt to set it upright again; depending on what kind of condition it is in.

The photo that is currently on the memorial shows a stone on the far-back right. This stone has green flower leaves around it. That is Keith's stone, and the 4 buried stones are to the left-north of that stone and green foliage.

Andrews Sams-Son Isaiah Peter Sams
Laura: Thank you for the wonderful memorials to the Sams family. I'm a genealogist working with one of the descendants of Andrew Sams. We're trying to find a source document that proves that Isaish Peter Sams was the son of Andrew. As a family member, can you help us?

Thank you for posting this picture here, Jerry was my grandfather and being his only granddaughter we were close. I cannot tell you how much the picture and even virtual flowers meant, no matter how arbitrary it may seem.

Tina Anguish
Susie Thompson - Vincent & James
Hello. In researching where family is buried, I saw your comments about Susie. My parents are Jerry (deceased 2011) and Viola Kaempfe. My maternal grandparents were Clyde & Ida Vincent (both deceased). Clyde's parents were Oscar and Eva Vincent (all 3 buried there in Alden). Yes, Susie was taken in by my great grandparents making Clyde and Susie half siblings. IF my memory serves me correctly 1) Susie became a nurse and 2) my mom, while at the age of 11 or so, was playing checkers with Susie when Susie passed away from a heart attack right in front of Mom (as stated, if memory serves me correctly). This lead to Mom becoming a nurse.

Susie had married James Thompson. I don't recall what James did but I do remember he was a huge HAMM radio operator. Even after Susie's passing, the family kept in touch with James until his death. James married twice after Susie's passing: Wilma who had a extreme rheumatoid arthritis and died and then Ruby (also now deceased).

Grandpa Vincent inherited the family farm there in Alden. As one takes the road directly north of the cemetery, it dead ends into a farm - that was theirs. Grandpa and Grandma Vincent sold it when mom was in her teens to pursue education/teaching. I hope this helps. Sincerely, Tina (Kaempfe) Anguish

Isaac Barnhart - New York Cemetery
Hi, Laura.
In Wayne County cemetery records [created on June 30, 1976], here's what it says about Isaac: "Row 19, #13: Barnhart, Isaac G. Died Aug. 12, 1874 age 3yr 1m 28d son of D & D Barnhart" The records can be found at Prairie Trails Museum, Corydon, Iowa. I looked where the headstone should be but did not find anything. I did take pictures of the area. It's possible that there could be a headstone buried just below the surface. You could hire someone in the area to find the stone for you. I have recently hired someone to clean, repair and remount some headstones for me. Brenda DeVore, director of the Prairie Trails Museum may be able to assist you in that effort if you choose to pursue it. I will be going back to the cemetery in the next few weeks/months to complete the project I mention above. I will take another look while there and see if I can see any indentations in the ground that might indicate where a stone could be. Sorry there isn't better news for you on this. Send an email to me privately and I'll send you the photos. -- Gayle #47223271

J. Bert Wren photo request
Hi!! I just wanted to let you know that, I don't think there is a headstone for J. I checked my records for this cemetery and did not find his name. As you probably already know his wife Nora is buried in Carl Junction and has a stone. I would think that he would've been buried with her. I will check the plot that she is buried in again just to make sure I didn't overlook his headstone when I was listing the burials in this cemetery. If there isn't a headstone for J., would you like me to take a picture of the plot where his wife is buried And add it to his memorial?

Your photo of Preston Maddox and family
Dear Laura,
I have been viewing Preston Maddox's Memorial# 37608394. Thank you for posting the photo of Preston and his family. I wonder if you know which wife and children are pictured: Henrietta Payton, or Elizabeth Blankenship.

Preston was my wife's 2x Great Grandfather. Her mother was Jean Maddox Thompson, Grandfather James Torrance Maddox, and Great Grandfather Robert Lincoln Maddox.

May I have your permission to add this photo to my family file? If so, how would you like for me to word the credit?

Thanks for your help.
Best regards,
Roger D. Morton

RE: Loren Witt McCalister
My husband is Terry Parsons. His father and mother were Herman and Ailene Parsons. His aunt and uncle were Homer and Alice Parsons and he has a cousin Roy and wife Martha who live near McCune. Terry grew up in the McCune area and went to school there through the 11th grade and then graduated from Girard high School.

I will transfer the memorial to you. At the moment I can't see any connection.

Have a great day!
