My full name is Rogerio Alves Ferreira Monteiro, and I am a chap born in December 2 ("Napoleon's day") of 1947 in Lourenço Marques (then, the capital of Mozambique - the portuguese colony of East Africa). I attended college in there to become a medical doctor. After decolonization, I came to Portugal with my family in 1976, and settled down in Oporto (Porto), where I became an Assistant Professor in one of the local medical schools (Institute of Biomedical Sciences of Abel Salazar, of the University of Oporto). In 1979, I obtained a especial scholarship from the University of the Witwatersrand (in Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa) in order to read for my PhD. degree at the medical school. I got my PhD. degree in 1987 (at the University of Oporto) with a Thesis concerning the fine structure of the cerebellar cortex, including age changes. In 1994, I became Associate Professor. Finally from 2000 onwards, I am a Full Professor (Chair: Histology & Embryology). I love very much to travel and I have visited several countries throughout all the continents, with the exception of Australia and surroundings. I am a very heavy DVD collector! I enjoy movies of all kinds, since comedy, melodrama until horror ones, as long as they are well directed. I also find great pleasure by watching cultural/information programs; in fact, my "cup of tea" are the History, Odyssey, Discovery and NG channels from cable TV. Reading books about History & Religion pleases me very much, namely when they concern the Egyptian, Mesopotamic and Hebraic cultures. I am the Associate-Editor of "Comparative Hepatology", a scientific journal on-line. Apart from that, I am still a bachelor and an amateur botanist in deep love with cacti and african violets.
