Please do NOT use the Flower Memory for this purpose; this information will be missed because memorial managers will not be notified if a flower is left on it. However, I will sometimes use it if the owner is not responsive or will not add the additional info in the bio section.

Many are not yet linked to each other. If you see them in your trees, please help branch out a little bit and contribute with additional info!

I've always had passion in genealogy. Virtually all my roots started in New England 400 years ago, heavily concentrated in CT and MA. I also have roots in Detroit, all my German ancestors migrated from Germany to Detroit in 1800s. It has been a fascinating journey discovering and learning so much more about my family, their migrations westward, and local history along the way. I have found that Findagrave has been an extremely valuable tool, a great asset in my research.

There are HUNDREDS of genealogy groups on Facebook. Surname, state, regional, and local groups abound. Do take advantage of them, they are free and some folks are really helpful. Use them to find new info and to find new cousins, and more! It's been an amazing way to connect with so many other cousins!

Do take advantage of yDNA testing to preserve the surnames especially those going back 300, 400 years ago in Colonial America. www.FTDNA.com is the best source for yDNA testing and also has the largest and well-established database. The bonus is they keep the testee's sample for up to 25 yrs for future tests. I especially urge those who have roots in Colonial New England have their living MALE relatives who carry the surname Phelps, Riley, Reed, Howe, Mason, Avery, Trowbridge, Eaton, Jackson, Kellogg, Ketchum, Olmsted, Stebbins, Bell, Knott, Douglass, Calkins/Caulkins, Carpenter, and oh, so many more, to test their yDNA. We need your help to establish and confirm the surname branches. The Family Finder test, which is an autosomal DNA test, is another great DNA tool, offered through FTDNA. Get your oldest family members tested first.
