RE: Theophilus Redfield (Find A Grave Memorial #6192989)
Thanks for the link to that book, Ray. I found on page 18 that it was, indeed, Theophilus, Jr. who served as a sergeant in his brother, Peleg's, company. Since my line of descent is through Theophilus, Jr. this information clarifies the data I am looking at. Thanks again!

Many regards,
Jeff

RE: Theophilus Redfield (Find A Grave Memorial #6192989)
Thanks for the info on Theophilus Redfield! So it seems that the rank was more honorary than official. Does the documentation you have indicate whether he actually served in 1759 and 1760? The payroll records I've seen on Ancestry show that Sgt. Theophilus Redfield reported to Capt. Peleg Redfield both years. I'll see if I can locate a copy of the source you used. You can never have too many sources!

Regards,
Jeff (also a Redfield descendant)

Theophilus Redfield (Find A Grave Memorial #6192989)
I am trying to compile information on my ancestor, Theophilus Redfield. You have a rank of Sgt. included in his name. Do you know the source for that? There was a Sgt. Theophilus Redfield in the French and Indian War, but it could have been the younger Theophilius. There is also data for Redfield continuing to serve in the same unit in 1760 when the elder Theophilus was already dead. I'm inclined to think that the military records are pointing to the younger Theo.

Charles C Riter
Charles and Hannah had a third and their oldest son, Arthur S Riter born Aug 20, 1857 in Appanoose Township, Hancock, Ill
His death was May 11, 1882 also in Appanoose. His wife was Iantha Bell Jones. This Arthur S. Riter appears with Charles and Hannah Margaret in the 1960 and 1970 census. He should not be confused with Arthur L Riter of a different Riter family. His children were Zula D Riter (1879-1944) and Charles W Riter (1881-1967)

RE: Downing connections
Never. Edits give me something to do in the evenings instead of watching nothing on TV or listening to the news....
