I have enjoyed wandering through cemetery and graveyards all of my life. Now I can't resist clicking through findagrave whenever I can. In 1977, when I began compiling my family history in earnest, I felt drawn to the gravesite of each relative I studied, so during the 1980s, my husband David and I often spent our vacations traveling from one cemetery to another – mainly in the Midwest and Northwest. In the 1990s, I organized volunteers from the Fairfax County Genealogical Society to survey over 350 cemeteries and burial sites in the county and oversaw the publication of Fairfax County, Virginia Gravestones, volumes I-VI.

Now that I have discovered findagrave, I am delighted to have a place where I can share hundreds of photographs we have taken of gravestones and memorials all over the country. My thanks to all the contributors who have built this site and to all those who have helped me since I have become a member.
