RE: Eli and Enos Davis
Hi Jackie,

Thank you for the information you sent. I appreciate it, and it is all very interesting. If you wish to send me anything or contact me through email, you can do so at

I am curious about your thoughts about Eli Davis's death date. Do you think it is about 1888 or 1861?

Eli and Enos Davis
Hi Jackie,

Thank you for the information about Eli and Enos Davis. Indeed, the number of Davis families have created confusion as to who is who. Additionally, there are several mysteries in our Davis family. I was aware of some of the information you provided, though not all. Thank you for sharing.

I put Eli's birth as Ohio because he claims this at times. It does make sense that he would think that, as he lived there when he was young. I have also seen his place of birth as Pennsylvania. He claims this on his Oregon Land Donation Claim. He claims on this he was born in Fayette Co., Pennsylvania. I have changed his birth location because what you say does make more sense to me. I also changed his death date, as I do not think it is correct. Several databases put his death date as 1888. Although difficult to see in the photo, I am told the headstone placed on his grave many years later states this as well. However, he is not found on census records after 1860 or tax lists either. There is a estate record for Eli Davis of Washington County for 1861. I found this in Oregon Historical Records Index.

As for Enos, the Enos I linked to is often asserted to be Eli's father. I have not been able to find anything that actually proves it myself. Many claim that the Enos I linked to lived in Portage, Ohio. Do you have any further details about our Enos and any information that he could not be the Enos I linked to? I have removed the link that I had for Enos, as he may not actually be his father. I added the link for his mother.

If you do not mind me asking, how do you connect to the Davis family? One of my Great Grandmother was a Davis: Eli Davis > Enos Davis > William Davis > Maxine Davis (my great grandmother). Are you closely related to me?

The Davis family has been one I have some difficulty tracking down solid information on. I appreciate you contacting me and sharing information.

Jackie - I have never had to recall a transfer offer but unfortunately in this case I am going to have to. I received a transfer request from Mrs. Ruttinger's daughter, who should be given priority in this case as Find A Grave guidelines dictate. I am very sorry for the loss that your family has experienced, but am glad that Mrs. Ruttinger's memorial is going to be in the hands of family. I have never been in this situation before but I feel that this is the right thing to do. Again, I apologize for not honoring the transfer as we had arranged, but I have to do what is right. Thank you for understanding.

Frances Eileen Morrissey Ruttinger
France's Eileen (Morrissey) Ruttinger is MY mother and, as her self-dictated Obituary indicates she wanted her name listed with her first husband's name "Evans" whom she was widowed from 9/20/1946 due to death as result of military plane crash at end of WWII, as well as her second husband 'Ruttinger".

I am the person, and daughter who requested the correction in the name, according to my mother's obituary that she dictated herself in 2007.

I have sent another edit request to please list her name as she requested as Frances Eileen (Morrissey) Evans Ruttinger. Please correct. Judith Ann Evans, daughter

Jackie - Thank you for the correction. The hyphenated last name was added via correction from another contributor. Since you are a family member I would like to offer to transfer ownership of Mrs. Ruttinger's memorial to you. I am not always taken up on my offers, but I usually make the offer to family members. Thank you for contacting me, and I am very sorry for your loss.
